All Saints' and St. Joseph's Churches 2012 Joint Mardi Gras Celebration
More than 140 people attended the second annual Mardi Gras party hosted by the Great Neck Episcopal Ministry on February 19, 2012.
After celebrating a joint bilingual Eucharist, burying the Alleluias and burning the old palms to make ashes for Ash Wednesday, the parishioners and friends went to Huske Hall at All Saints for a Mardi Gras Party and to celebrate the diversity of GEM.
Parishioners brought food that represented their culture and some folks came in costume of their country of origin. African, Korean, Caribbean, as well as Spanish, English and American food specialties were featured. Fun was had with music and dance from around the world.
St. Paul's Ministry Center is the home to two Dance Schools, Children Dancing and The Spanish Dance School. An invitation was extended and accepted by these dance schools. The Korean Drum Group also accepted an invitation to come and celebrate with us.
Dance Directors, Beth Jucovy (Children's Dancing), and Gabriela Granados (Spanish Dance School) brought dance to the Mardi Gras: Classical dance, contemporary dance, American hip-hop, break dancing, Flamenco, and drumming helped to liven things up in Huske Hall.

This was truly a community building event for the Great Neck Episcopal Ministry. Everyone had a great time.
